Tie the tenderloin with kitchen twine if needed for even shape
Season all sides generously with salt and black pepper
Optional: rub with olive oil, garlic, and herbs
Heat an oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat
Sear the tenderloin on all sides until browned
Transfer the skillet to the oven
Roast until the internal temperature reaches your desired doneness
Remove from the oven at 125°F for rare
Remove from the oven at 130°F for medium-rare
Remove from the oven at 140°F for medium
Rest the meat for 15 to 20 minutes
Slice against the grain and serve
