How To Cook Red Lentils?

Rinse the red lentils under cold water until the water runs mostly clear

Pick out any debris or small stones

Add 1 cup red lentils to 2 to 3 cups water or broth in a pot

Bring to a boil over medium-high heat

Reduce the heat to low and simmer

Skim off any foam if needed

Cook for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally

Add more liquid if needed to keep them from sticking

Season with salt near the end of cooking

Remove from heat when the lentils are soft and breaking down

Drain any excess liquid if desired

Serve as is or use in soups, curries, dal, or purees
