Select a warm, humid location with partial shade
Choose well-drained, fertile, loamy soil with pH 6.0 to 7.5
Prepare raised beds or ridges to prevent waterlogging
Use healthy turmeric rhizomes with 1–2 buds each
Treat rhizomes with a fungicide or organic bioagent before planting
Plant rhizome pieces 5–7 cm deep
Space plants 30–45 cm apart in rows 45–60 cm apart
Plant at the beginning of the rainy season or when soil moisture is adequate
Apply well-decomposed compost or farmyard manure before planting
Mulch the beds with dry leaves, straw, or grass after planting
Water regularly to keep soil moist but not soggy
Weed the field frequently during early growth
Earth up soil around plants as they grow
Apply nitrogen-rich fertilizer in split doses if needed
Monitor for pests and diseases and remove infected plants
Harvest when leaves turn yellow and dry, usually after 7–10 months
Dig out rhizomes carefully to avoid damage
Clean harvested rhizomes and remove roots and soil
Boil or steam rhizomes if curing is required
Dry rhizomes thoroughly in the sun or a dryer
Store dried turmeric in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place
