Wait until flowers fade, wilt, or turn brown
Follow the flower stem down to the first set of healthy leaves or a side shoot
Pinch, snip, or cut off the spent flower spike just above that point
Use clean, sharp scissors or pruning snips
Remove any dead, damaged, or diseased blooms at the same time
Deadhead regularly to encourage more blooms
Check plants every few days during peak flowering
Dispose of removed flower spikes if they are diseased
Stop deadheading if you want the plant to set seed
