Gather materials: wooden or metal frame pieces, hardware cloth or mesh screen, screws or bolts, hinges, two wheels, axle or wheel brackets, handle material, and sandpaper
Decide the sifter size based on your garden use and available storage space
Cut the frame pieces to form a rectangular box
Assemble the frame with screws or bolts
Attach the mesh screen tightly across the bottom or center of the frame
Reinforce the screen edges with strips or staples
Build or attach a rolling base under the frame
Mount the wheels on one end or on both sides of the base
Add a handle on the opposite end for pulling or pushing
Secure all joints and fasteners firmly
Test the sifter on level ground
Check wheel movement and screen tension
Sand any rough edges
Use the sifter by placing soil or compost inside and rolling it to separate debris
Clean the screen after each use
Store the sifter in a dry place
