How to Add Acid to Soil?

Test the soil pH first

Choose an acidifying amendment based on soil type and plant needs

Apply elemental sulfur to lower pH gradually

Use aluminum sulfate for a faster pH change if appropriate

Mix in peat moss to help acidify soil

Add organic matter such as pine needles, oak leaves, or composted bark

Use acid-forming fertilizers designed for acid-loving plants

Water with rainwater instead of alkaline tap water when possible

Recheck soil pH after treatment

Repeat applications slowly as needed to avoid over-acidifying the soil
