Gather two wooden poles or bamboo sticks
Make one long pole for the body and one shorter pole for the arms
Tie or nail the shorter pole across the upper part of the long pole
Secure the poles together firmly with rope, wire, or strong tape
Place the bottom of the long pole into the ground or attach it to a sturdy base
Dress the frame with old clothes, such as a shirt and pants
Stuff the clothes with straw, hay, leaves, or newspaper
Fill the sleeves, chest, and legs evenly to give the scarecrow shape
Put a sack, hat, or cloth bundle on the top for the head
Draw or attach a face using marker, buttons, fabric, or paper
Add gloves, boots, or extra fabric if desired
Tie the clothes closed at the wrists, ankles, and neck
Position the scarecrow in the garden or field
Make sure it is stable and secured against wind
Check it regularly and repair any loose parts
