Rest and stay home
Drink small sips of water or oral rehydration solution often
Eat bland foods when able, such as toast, rice, bananas, or crackers
Avoid alcohol, caffeine, greasy foods, spicy foods, and dairy if they worsen symptoms
Wash hands frequently to prevent spreading it to others
Use acetaminophen for fever or aches if needed, unless a doctor has told you not to
Avoid anti-diarrheal medicines if you have a high fever or bloody diarrhea unless a doctor advises them
Seek medical care if you cannot keep fluids down, have signs of dehydration, severe pain, blood in vomit or stool, or symptoms lasting more than a few days
