How To Disable Hardware Acceleration?

Windows 10/11 (Chrome/Edge)

Open Chrome/Edge

Go to Settings

Search for “use hardware acceleration”

Turn off “Use hardware acceleration when available”

Relaunch browser

Windows 10/11 (Firefox)

Open Firefox

Go to Settings

General

Scroll to Performance

Uncheck “Use recommended performance settings”

Uncheck “Use hardware acceleration when available”

Restart Firefox

macOS (Chrome/Edge)

Open Chrome/Edge

Open Settings

Search for “hardware acceleration”

Turn off “Use hardware acceleration when available”

Relaunch browser

macOS (Firefox)

Open Firefox

Go to Settings

General

Scroll to Performance

Uncheck “Use hardware acceleration when available”

Restart Firefox

Windows 10/11 (System)

Open Settings

Go to System > Display > Graphics

Select the app to change

Set “Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling” to Off (if available)

Restart the app

Windows 10/11 (DirectX/Graphics driver level)

Update or change GPU driver settings via the GPU control panel

Disable hardware acceleration options in NVIDIA Control Panel / AMD Software / Intel Graphics Command Center

Restart the affected apps
