Drain the oil into a clean, sealed container
Keep the oil free of water, coolant, fuel, and other fluids
Wipe any spills with absorbent material
Store the container upright and tightly closed
Label the container as used motor oil
Take the oil to a recycling center, auto parts store, or household hazardous waste facility
Check local disposal rules before dropping it off
Never pour oil into drains, on the ground, or into trash
Recycle the oil filter if your area accepts it
Transport the container carefully to prevent leaks
