Disconnect the battery
Locate the oxygen sensor
Remove the sensor from the exhaust
Inspect the sensor tip for heavy damage
Spray the sensor tip with oxygen sensor-safe cleaner
Use a soft brush to remove loose carbon buildup
Soak the sensor tip in gasoline or solvent only if recommended by the manufacturer
Let the sensor dry completely
Reinstall the sensor
Reconnect the battery
Clear any trouble codes if needed
