How to Ease Arm Pain?

Rest the arm and avoid activities that worsen the pain

Apply ice for 15 to 20 minutes at a time, several times a day for the first 48 hours

Use heat after the first 48 hours if stiffness or muscle tightness is present

Keep the arm elevated when possible

Take over-the-counter pain relievers if safe for you, such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen

Gently stretch and move the arm if pain allows

Use a compression wrap if swelling is present

Massage the area lightly if it does not increase pain

Improve posture and avoid prolonged repetitive motions

Support the arm with a pillow while resting or sleeping

Stop any activity that causes sharp or worsening pain

Seek medical care if pain is severe, persistent, or follows an injury

Seek urgent care if there is chest pain, shortness of breath, numbness, weakness, or swelling with redness or warmth
