Wash your hands before touching the area
Gently cleanse the skin with a mild, non-comedogenic cleanser
Apply a cold compress for 5–10 minutes to reduce redness and swelling
Spot treat with benzoyl peroxide (2.5%–5%)
Or spot treat with salicylic acid (0.5%–2%)
Use a hydrocolloid pimple patch if the pimple is on the surface
Leave the pimple alone; do not squeeze, pick, or pop
If it’s painful or deep, apply a warm compress for 10–15 minutes once daily
Keep hair, makeup, and skincare off the spot; avoid heavy or oily products
Use non-comedogenic moisturizer if skin feels dry or irritated
Change pillowcases and avoid rubbing the area with towels or clothing
If you use makeup, choose non-comedogenic, oil-free products
If no improvement in 2–3 days, continue spot treatment and reassess
Seek medical care if it’s very large, worsening, very painful, recurrent, or leaves scars
Consider a dermatologist if you get frequent breakouts or cystic acne
Avoid using multiple strong acne actives at once on the same spot
Stop if you develop significant irritation, swelling, or rash
