Treat the underlying cause
Rest and get plenty of sleep
Drink enough fluids
Use a warm compress on the swollen area
Take over-the-counter pain relievers if appropriate
Avoid squeezing or massaging the lymph nodes
Monitor for changes in size, pain, or tenderness
See a doctor if the swelling lasts more than 2 to 4 weeks
Seek medical care if you have fever, night sweats, unexplained weight loss, or trouble swallowing or breathing
Get urgent care if the lymph node is hard, fixed, rapidly growing, or very painful
