Rest and monitor the swelling
Apply a warm compress for 10 to 15 minutes several times a day
Stay hydrated
Take over-the-counter pain relievers if needed and safe for you
Treat the underlying cause, such as an infection
Avoid squeezing or massaging the lymph node
See a doctor if the swelling lasts more than 2 to 4 weeks
See a doctor if the node is hard, fixed, rapidly growing, or very painful
Seek medical care if you have fever, night sweats, unexplained weight loss, or trouble swallowing or breathing
Seek urgent care if swelling is severe or occurs with redness, warmth, or pus
