Turn off the water supply to the shower
Cover the drain with a cloth to prevent losing small parts
Unscrew the shower head from the shower arm
Check the shower arm threads and the shower head inlet for debris or mineral buildup
Inspect the rubber washer/gasket inside the shower head
Replace the washer/gasket with a new one if it’s cracked, flattened, hardened, or missing
Reinstall the shower head and tighten by hand
If it still leaks, wrap the shower arm threads with plumber’s tape (PTFE) before reinstalling the shower head
Tighten gently with a wrench only if needed (avoid overtightening)
If the leak is from the shower arm connection (not the head face), remove the shower head and inspect the shower arm for damage
Replace any damaged shower arm fittings or seals
Check for a worn shower hose connection (if your setup uses a handheld with a hose)
Replace the hose washer/gasket at the leaking connection
Tighten the hose fittings by hand, then lightly with a wrench if needed
If the leak persists, replace the shower head or the shower arm connection parts as required
Turn the water back on and test for leaks
Retighten slightly or reapply plumber’s tape if minor seepage continues
