Both parties must appear together at a California county clerk’s office
Bring valid government-issued photo identification
Provide your full legal names, dates of birth, and places of birth
Provide your parents’ full names, including mother’s maiden name if applicable
If previously married, provide the date the last marriage ended
Choose whether to apply for a public marriage license or a confidential marriage license
Complete the marriage license application
Pay the county marriage license fee
Receive the marriage license from the county clerk
Use the license within 90 days of issuance
Have the marriage ceremony performed by an authorized officiant
Return the completed license to the county recorder after the ceremony
Request certified copies of the marriage certificate if needed
