Blot excess diesel with paper towels or an absorbent cloth
Air out the clothing outdoors
Sprinkle baking soda or cornstarch on the stained area
Let it sit for several hours
Shake off the powder
Pre-treat with liquid laundry detergent or dish soap
Gently rub the fabric together
Soak the clothes in warm water with detergent
Wash separately from other laundry
Use the hottest water safe for the fabric
Add white vinegar to the wash if fabric care allows
Run an extra rinse cycle
Repeat washing if the smell remains
Dry the clothes in fresh air
Do not use a dryer until the odor is gone
Use an odor remover or enzyme laundry additive if needed
For stubborn smell, repeat the soak and wash process
