Scrape loose paint with a paint scraper
Sand the wood surface with medium-grit sandpaper
Apply a chemical paint stripper if needed
Let the stripper sit according to the label instructions
Scrape off the softened paint
Repeat the stripper process for stubborn areas
Sand again with fine-grit sandpaper
Wipe the wood clean with a damp cloth
Use a heat gun carefully for thick paint layers
Remove residue before refinishing the wood
