Confirm bat activity at dusk or dawn
Do not touch or handle bats
Keep children and pets away from the attic
Contact local wildlife control or a licensed bat removal professional
Check local laws before any removal, as bats may be protected
Identify all entry and exit points around the roof, vents, eaves, and gaps
Install one-way exclusion devices on active exits only
Leave one-way devices in place long enough for all bats to leave
Seal all secondary openings after bats have exited
Remove one-way devices and permanently close the main entry points
Repair damaged screens, soffits, shingles, and vents
Clean and disinfect bat droppings and urine after removal
Wear proper protective gear during cleanup
Test or inspect for mold and contamination if needed
Avoid using poison, glue traps, or fumigation
Avoid sealing the attic before bats have exited
Schedule exclusion outside of maternity season if possible
Monitor the attic and exterior for new activity after sealing
Consider installing bat houses away from the home
