Use broad-spectrum sunscreen SPF 30 or higher every day
Apply sunscreen around the mouth and reapply every 2 hours when outdoors

Stop using harsh exfoliants or irritating lip products
Use topical ingredients such as niacinamide, azelaic acid, vitamin C, or kojic acid
Consider retinoids at night if tolerated
Use hydroquinone only under medical supervision
Treat any underlying cause such as eczema, acne, or lip-licking
Avoid waxing or shaving irritation around the mouth
Use a lip balm with SPF
Patch test new products before regular use
