Keep feet clean and dry
Wash feet daily with soap and water
Dry thoroughly, especially between the toes
Change socks daily or more often if sweaty
Wear breathable shoes
Rotate shoes and let them dry out
Use antifungal powder or spray in shoes and on feet
Apply an over-the-counter antifungal cream, ointment, or spray as directed
Trim and clean toenails regularly
Disinfect nail clippers and other foot tools
Avoid walking barefoot in public showers, locker rooms, and pool areas
Choose moisture-wicking socks
Avoid tight shoes that trap moisture
Treat athlete’s foot promptly if present
Continue treatment for the full recommended time
See a doctor if the fungus is severe, painful, spreading, or not improving
Ask a doctor about prescription antifungal medication if needed
