Scrub the rusted areas with steel wool, a chainmail scrubber, or a stiff brush
Use coarse salt as an abrasive if needed
Wash with hot water and a small amount of mild dish soap
Rinse thoroughly and dry immediately with a towel
Heat the pan on the stove or in the oven to remove all moisture
Apply a thin layer of cooking oil to the entire surface
Wipe off any excess oil
Bake the pan upside down in the oven at 450–500°F for about 1 hour
Let it cool completely in the oven
Repeat oiling and baking if rust remains or the seasoning is damaged
Store in a dry place after each use
Avoid soaking the pan in water
Clean and dry promptly after every use
