Contact your former employer’s payroll or HR department
Ask them to mail, email, or provide online access to your W-2
Verify your current mailing address with them
Check any employee self-service portal you previously used
Look for W-2 availability through the payroll provider they use
Request a reissued copy if the original was lost or never received
If the employer is no longer in business, contact the payroll company if known
If you still cannot get it, contact the IRS at 800-829-1040
File Form 4506-T to request a wage and income transcript from the IRS
Use Form 4852 as a substitute W-2 if needed to file your tax return
Keep records of your requests and any responses from the employer
