Blot up as much wine as possible with a clean white cloth or paper towel
Do not rub the stain
Sprinkle salt or baking soda over the stain to absorb moisture
Pour a small amount of cold water on the stain and blot again
Mix a few drops of dish soap with cold water
Apply the solution to the stain with a clean cloth and blot
Repeat blotting with clean cloths until the stain lifts
Rinse the area lightly with cold water and blot dry
Use a carpet stain remover if needed, following the label instructions
For red wine, apply a mix of white vinegar and dish soap with water, then blot
For stubborn stains, use hydrogen peroxide only on light-colored carpet after testing a hidden spot
Dry the area with a fan or dry towels
Vacuum the carpet after it is fully dry if any residue remains
