Eat a ripe peach and save the pit
Remove all fruit flesh from the pit
Let the pit dry for a few days
Crack the pit open carefully to remove the seed, if desired
Place the seed in a damp paper towel
Put the paper towel in a sealed plastic bag
Refrigerate the bag for 8 to 12 weeks
Check occasionally to keep the towel slightly moist
Remove the seed after cold stratification
Plant the seed in a pot with well-draining soil
Cover the seed with about 1 inch of soil
Water the soil lightly
Keep the pot in a warm, sunny location
Maintain moist, not soggy, soil
Wait for germination
Transplant the seedling outdoors after the last frost
Choose a sunny location with well-draining soil
Space the tree properly from other plants
Water regularly during the first growing season
Protect the young tree from pests and frost
Prune as needed as the tree grows
