Gather supplies: unscented household bleach, water, measuring cup, bucket or tub, gloves, clean cloths, and moisturizer
Use only regular, plain bleach; do not use concentrated, splashless, scented, or color-safe bleach
Mix a very dilute solution according to the product label or a clinician’s instructions
Add bleach to water, not water to bleach
Stir the solution well
Wear gloves if needed
Test the solution on a small hidden area first if using on a surface
Apply the solution to the affected area or item as directed
Keep contact time brief and follow the recommended duration
Do not use on broken, irritated, or sensitive skin unless directed by a clinician
Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and other mucous membranes
Rinse thoroughly with clean water after the contact time
Pat dry with a clean towel
Apply moisturizer if used on skin and recommended by a clinician
Wash hands after handling bleach
Never mix bleach with ammonia, vinegar, or other cleaners
Stop immediately if burning, severe irritation, or breathing problems occur
Seek medical advice before using a bleach bath on a child, infant, pregnant person, or anyone with eczema, asthma, or sensitive skin
