Choose a ripe pineapple with a healthy green crown
Twist or cut off the top, removing any fruit flesh
Peel away a few lower leaves to expose the stem
Trim off any remaining fruit tissue
Let the top dry for 1 to 3 days
Place the crown in water or directly in soil to root
If using water, suspend the base in water without submerging the leaves
If using soil, plant in a well-draining potting mix
Keep the plant in bright, indirect light
Water lightly and keep the soil slightly moist, not soggy
Wait for roots to develop before moving to a larger pot
Transplant to a larger container once rooted
Keep the plant warm and in a sunny location
Fertilize lightly during the growing season
Be patient, as fruiting can take 2 to 3 years or longer
