Turn off power to the kitchen circuit at the breaker or unplug the disposal if applicable
Verify power is off using a voltage tester
Shut off the sink water supply valves (hot and cold)
Remove the sink drain stopper and any existing strainer/cover assembly
Disconnect the dishwasher drain hose from the disposer inlet (if present)
Disconnect electrical wiring from the disposer cord or switch connection
Lower the mounting ring assembly and remove the old disposal (if replacing)
Clean the sink flange area and remove old plumber’s putty or gasket material
Install the sink flange gasket (or apply plumber’s putty per kit instructions)
Position the mounting ring under the sink and secure it using the provided hardware
Ensure the mounting ring is level and tightly secured
Attach the disposer to the mounting ring by aligning the tabs and twisting/locking it into place
Confirm the disposer is seated firmly and centered under the sink
Connect the dishwasher drain hose to the disposer inlet using the provided clamp
Install the discharge/exit flange to the disposal outlet
Connect the discharge pipe to the disposer outlet using the provided gasket and fittings
Connect the P-trap to the discharge pipe and ensure all joints are tight
If required, install the rubber splash guard/baffle and any included extension components
Connect electrical wiring:
If hardwired: connect black to black (or hot), white to white (or neutral), green/bare to ground
If using a plug-in model: use the supplied cord and confirm it matches outlet requirements
Secure wiring with the provided strain relief and tighten the cover plate
Confirm the disposer discharge direction and that no hoses/pipes are kinked
Turn on water and run for a few minutes to check for leaks
Restore power at the breaker
Test switch operation and confirm the disposer starts and shuts off properly
If it won’t start, turn off power and check wiring connections and the reset button (if included)
Verify there is no binding and that the unit runs smoothly
Recheck all clamps, fittings, and electrical connections after initial testing
