Check local codes and permits
Choose the sump pump type and size
Select the sump pit location
Mark the pit outline on the floor
Break and remove the concrete
Excavate the sump pit
Place the basin in the hole
Add gravel around the basin
Drill inlet holes if needed
Set the pump inside the basin
Install the check valve on the discharge line
Connect the discharge piping
Route the discharge line to the outside
Seal wall or floor penetrations
Install the float switch if separate
Connect the pump to a GFCI outlet
Test the pump with water
Verify proper drainage and pump cycling
Install a backup power source if desired
Replace the concrete around the basin if required
Maintain the pump regularly
