How To Install Hardwood Floors?

Acclimate the hardwood flooring in the room for the recommended time

Remove baseboards, trim, and existing flooring if needed

Clean, dry, and level the subfloor

Repair any subfloor damage

Install underlayment or moisture barrier if required

Plan the layout and determine the starting wall

Measure the room and snap chalk lines

Cut door jambs and casings as needed for clearance

Install the first row with the tongue or groove facing the correct direction

Leave the required expansion gap around the perimeter

Secure the flooring using nails, staples, glue, or floating-click installation as specified

Stagger end joints between rows

Continue installing rows and maintain alignment

Cut boards to fit at walls, corners, and obstacles

Install the final row and use a pry bar if needed

Reinstall baseboards and trim

Fill nail holes and touch up as needed

Clean the floor and follow the manufacturer’s curing or use instructions
