Plan the layout and measure the area
Check local codes and call utility marking services
Gather materials and tools
Mark the work area with stakes and string
Excavate the area to the required depth
Compact the subgrade
Install a geotextile fabric if needed
Add and compact a base layer of crushed stone
Add and level a bedding layer of sand
Screed the sand to an even surface
Lay the pavers in the desired pattern
Cut pavers to fit edges and corners
Install edge restraints
Fill joints with joint sand
Compact the pavers with a plate compactor
Sweep more joint sand into the joints
Repeat compaction and sweeping as needed
Clean the surface
Inspect for level and alignment
Seal the pavers if desired
