Insert a clean, lubricated finger into the rectum
Aim the finger toward the front wall of the rectum, toward the belly button
Feel about 2 to 3 inches inside the rectum
Look for a small, round, firm gland about the size of a walnut
The prostate is located just below the bladder
The prostate surrounds the upper part of the urethra
Stop if there is pain, bleeding, or significant discomfort
