Measure the room, ceiling height, and mattress size
Choose a loft bed design and set the desired bed height
Gather materials: lumber, plywood, screws, bolts, brackets, sandpaper, wood glue, finish
Gather tools: tape measure, saw, drill, level, square, clamps, sander, wrench
Cut the frame pieces to size
Build the side rails and end rails
Assemble the outer bed frame
Add center supports and cross braces
Install the slats or plywood mattress platform
Build and attach the legs or support posts
Add a ladder or stairs
Install guardrails on all open sides
Check all joints for alignment and tightness
Sand all edges and surfaces
Apply stain, paint, or sealant
Place the mattress on the platform
Test stability and weight capacity before use
