Choose a large sweet onion
Cut off the top and peel the outer skin
Place the onion cut-side down
Make one vertical cut through the center, stopping before the root
Make 3 to 4 more vertical cuts around the onion to create petals
Gently separate the onion layers
Mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne
Beat eggs with milk in a separate bowl
Dip the onion in the flour mixture
Dip the onion in the egg mixture
Dip the onion again in the flour mixture
Shake off excess coating
Heat oil in a deep pot to 350°F
Fry the onion cut-side down until golden
Carefully turn and fry until crisp and browned
Drain on paper towels
Serve with dipping sauce
