Rinse the corned beef brisket under cold water

Place the brisket in the crock pot, fat side up

Add the seasoning packet that came with the corned beef

Add 1 to 2 cups of water, beef broth, or a mix of both

Add optional aromatics such as onion, garlic, bay leaves, or peppercorns

Cover and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours

Add potatoes, carrots, and cabbage during the last 2 to 3 hours if desired

Check that the corned beef is fork-tender before removing

Let the meat rest for 10 to 15 minutes before slicing

Slice against the grain and serve
