Boil water
Pour hot water into a jar or bowl
Add borax a little at a time
Stir until no more borax dissolves
Tie a string to a pencil or stick
Suspend the string in the solution without touching the sides or bottom
Leave the container undisturbed
Wait several hours or overnight
Remove the string or object when crystals have formed
Let the crystals dry on a paper towel
Repeat with more borax solution if needed
