1/2 cup unsalted butter

2 cups heavy cream

2 cups freshly grated Parmesan cheese

2 cloves garlic, minced

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg, optional

Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat

Add the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds

Pour in the heavy cream and stir

Simmer for 3 to 5 minutes, stirring often

Reduce the heat to low

Add the Parmesan cheese gradually, stirring until smooth

Stir in the salt, black pepper, and nutmeg if using

Cook for 1 to 2 more minutes until thickened

Remove from heat and serve immediately
