Add oats and water or milk to a microwave-safe bowl
Use about 1 part oats to 2 parts liquid
Stir to combine
Microwave on high for 1 to 2 minutes
Stop and stir halfway through if needed
Watch carefully to prevent boiling over
Microwave longer in 15 to 30 second intervals if not fully cooked
Let it sit for 1 minute
Stir before eating
Add toppings if desired
