Use red paint directly if you want pure red
Mix magenta with a small amount of yellow to make a warmer red
Mix crimson with a little white to make a lighter red
Add a tiny amount of blue to deepen red toward burgundy
Add a tiny amount of black to darken red
Mix red pigment with a binder if making paint from scratch
Adjust slowly, adding small amounts at a time until the shade is right
