Rinse 1 cup rice and 1 cup beans
Soak beans overnight if using dried beans
Drain beans
Add beans to a pot with water
Bring to a boil
Reduce heat and simmer until beans are tender
Drain beans if needed
Add rice to a pot with water or broth
Add salt
Bring to a boil
Reduce heat, cover, and simmer until rice is cooked
Mix rice and beans together
Add oil, garlic, onion, or spices if desired
Serve warm
