How to Make Soil More Alkaline?

Add agricultural lime (calcitic lime)

Add dolomitic lime if magnesium is also needed

Mix in wood ash sparingly

Use crushed limestone

Apply hydrated lime only with caution and according to soil test recommendations

Incorporate oyster shell flour or crushed shells

Use alkaline compost materials in moderation

Avoid acidifying fertilizers such as ammonium sulfate or urea

Reduce applications of acidic organic matter like peat moss and pine needles

Test soil pH regularly before and after amendments
