Use a tape measure or caliper
Measure the outside diameter across the widest point
For inside diameter, measure the opening from inner edge to inner edge
For pipe circumference, wrap a tape around the pipe and divide by pi
Check the pipe label or markings if available
Compare the measurement to standard pipe size charts
Measure in inches or millimeters as needed
Take the measurement at more than one point if the pipe is not perfectly round
