Turn off the water supply if needed
Place a bucket under the sink
Disconnect the P-trap
Remove any drain stopper linkage
Loosen the locknut under the drain
Cut or break the plumber’s putty seal if present
Lift the drain body out from above
Clean off old putty and debris
Remove any remaining gasket or seal parts
