Open the Preview.pdf file if present
Open the document in iCloud Pages using a web browser
Upload the file to Google Drive and open it with a compatible converter
Ask the sender to export it as a Word document or PDF
Use LibreOffice or an online file converter to convert it to DOCX or PDF
