Deal each player a personal stock pile of 13 cards face down
Deal 4 cards face up to each player to start their tableau
Place the remaining cards face down as each player’s Nertz pile
Put the shared center area in the middle for building foundation piles
Start the game at the same time for all players
Build tableau piles in descending order and alternating colors
Move cards to the center foundation piles in ascending order by suit
Play from the stock pile, tableau, and Nertz pile whenever a legal move is available
Flip cards from the stock pile one at a time if no move is possible
Keep the top card of each tableau pile available for play
When a tableau pile is emptied, fill it with a card from another legal move if possible
Continue until one player gets rid of all cards in their Nertz pile
Shout Nertz when your Nertz pile is empty
Stop play and score the round
Count points for cards played to the center and penalties for cards left in the Nertz pile, if using scoring
Play multiple rounds to determine the overall winner
