Shuffle a standard 52-card deck
Deal all cards evenly to each player face down
Keep your cards in a single pile without looking at them
Each player flips the top card at the same time
The player with the higher card takes both cards and places them at the bottom of their pile
Aces are usually high
If the cards are tied, start a war
For a war, each player places three cards face down
Each player then flips a fourth card face up
The higher fourth card wins all cards in the war
If there is another tie, repeat the war
Continue playing until one player has all the cards
If a player cannot place enough cards during a war, that player loses
Play until one player wins or the game is ended by agreement
