Do not pop it if it is deep, very painful, swollen, or near the ear canal
Wash your hands thoroughly
Clean the outer ear gently with mild soap and water
Apply a warm compress to the area for 10 to 15 minutes
Repeat the warm compress 3 to 4 times a day
Use a clean cotton swab to apply a small amount of over-the-counter acne treatment only on the outer ear skin, not inside the ear canal
Do not use sharp objects, fingernails, or needles
Do not squeeze hard or repeatedly
If it opens on its own, gently clean the area and keep it dry
Apply a small amount of antiseptic or antibiotic ointment only if suitable for outer skin use
Avoid earbuds, headphones, and touching the area
Seek medical care if there is severe pain, spreading redness, swelling, pus, fever, hearing changes, or if it does not improve
