Add 2 to 3 tablespoons of oil to a large pot with a lid
Heat the pot over medium heat
Add 2 to 3 popcorn kernels and cover the pot
Wait until the test kernels pop
Add enough popcorn kernels to cover the bottom of the pot in a single layer
Cover the pot and keep it slightly tilted to let steam escape
Shake the pot gently every few seconds
Listen for the popping to slow to about 2 seconds between pops
Remove the pot from the heat
Pour the popcorn into a bowl
Add salt or other seasonings if desired
