How To Propagate African Violets?

Choose a healthy, mature leaf from the middle of the plant

Cut the leaf stem at a 45-degree angle, leaving about 1 to 2 inches of stem

Fill a small pot or tray with a light, well-draining propagation mix

Moisten the mix lightly

Insert the leaf stem into the mix so the leaf sits above the surface

Place the pot in bright, indirect light

Keep the soil lightly moist, not wet

Maintain warm temperatures

Cover loosely with a clear dome or plastic bag if needed to hold humidity

Wait for new plantlets to form at the base of the leaf

Separate the plantlets when they have several leaves

Pot each plantlet into its own small container

Use a well-draining African violet potting mix

Water carefully from the bottom or avoid wetting the leaves

Keep the new plants in bright, indirect light until established
